The Laser Drill Control Unit is a Story Item used in the Korolev Campaign Mission Heavy Construction Part 2. The Mission requires the Prospector to visit the Old Drill Head at Crashed Drill Site on Bright Sands and collect the Laser Drill Control Unit item.

Story
In Heavy Construction Korolev is attempting to build a Laser Drill to extract 
Letium from Fortuna III. Korolev used laser drills in the past to mine Veltecite, and wants to reuse this technology. This is why the Prospector has to collect the Laser Drill Control Unit to salvage the tech from it.
