Cataclysm was the end of season event for Season 1. It featured frequent storms on both Bright Sands and Crescent Falls, special meteor shards and cores which can be used to craft exotic and legendary equipment and greatly reduced shop-prices.

Summary of changes

This event changes mechanics in the game, or adds additional mechanics. The following is a short summary:

  • Storms were three times as frequent on Bright Sands and Crescent Falls.
  • Alien Meteor Shards and Alien Meteor Cores can be collected from meteors, dead creatures and mineral veins.
  • These Alien Meteor items could be used to craft Gear and Weapons of Exotic and Legendary rarity at the Gear Printer. If an item was already craftable, such as the KARMA-1, it is no longer possible to craft it with the original recipe, just the new recipe.
  • Creatures drop Creature Head items more often.
  • Evac was only available during storm.
  • Spawn rate increased for meteor showers and mineral nodes.

Cataclysm for dummies

The Cataclysm event was held for the last 2 weeks of Season 1, allowed people to easily afford gear and weapons and overhauled the gameplay experience.

As the storms were more frequent, a item of high value for prospectors were the legendary Night Vision Helmet, which allows increased vision during night, at the cost of not being able to use scopes above 1x.

With the top gear and weapons requiring Alien Meteor Cores, the locations of meteors became a hot spot for PvP and anyone who came near them had to be careful. This often caused large-scale battles to break out between numerous teams, all attempting to secure the loot.

Anyone who were down on their luck and in need of money could easily gain new wealth by killing creatures, as the drop-rates of heads were increased enough to make it easy to earn money.

Together with easy access to money, the prices for most items were also greatly reduced, allowing for cheap access to guns and equipment in the shops.
