The Federation is a collection of nations which form the collective government of Federation Space. Federation space is the part of the galaxy that is colonized by members of the Federation. These worlds are close together, and are also known as the Artery Systems.
The Fortuna System lies outside of Federation space and outside of its legislative powers.
